Umeå — the young university city
Umeå University is purposeful, inquisitive and innovative. Its 31,000 students and 2,000 researchers come from all around Sweden and the whole world.
On Campus Umeå all academic disciplines, courses and programmes, and study environments are within walking distance of each other. Umeå University, that opened in 1965 and is an important reason for Umeå’s rapid expansion, carries on strong international top-level research in for example ageing and population studies, infection medicine, and plant and forest biotechnology. Umeå University is one of the country’s largest teaching universities.
